NEW STORIES ABOUT STORIES ABOUT BIKES

The community of La Madera Park neighborhood is spending some time this Thanksgiving weekend telling stories about the place and meaning of bikes in their lives. So far, I have collected bits and pieces of stories about bikes from nine different people in this community! With participants ranging from the ages of 3 to 81, the memories and meanings of bikes has produced some incredible points of analysis on gender, class, ideas of home, freedom, and identity. The emotional attachments around the place of bikes in the lives of others has taken me by surprise. Because the topic often evokes new thoughts and memories, it is a challenge to keep the interviews on track and even more of a challenge to begin to edit them. This is how I will spend much of the coming days...a very good way to spend a rainy weekend!
